Intercultural training: The Excursion module
The Excursion module (module code W3M10205) can be taken in almost all degree programmes in the Department of Economics. The excursions usually last around one week and serve to familiarise students with major cities as business locations.
The Excursion module can be selected as an elective module in the degree programme. Students in the Faculty of Engineering can also take the Excursion module as one of two elective modules with the approval of the academic director. To pass the module, students must complete an examination in the form of a portfolio.
The exciting excursions are accompanied by professors and lecturers from the DHBW.
Destinations in previous years have included
- Norway
- Great Britain
We are planning the following excursions for you in the coming semesters:
- Spain
- Finland
- Namibia and South Africa
The aim of the Excursion module is for students to gain an understanding of the complexity of industry issues and competitive situations in the respective cultural environment. To this end, complex market structures are analysed before and during the excursion, possible scenarios are evaluated and assessed in terms of their advantages and disadvantages, and concrete measures for solving the tasks are generated. By visiting several institutions, companies, etc. in a region, students are able to assess the overall situation from a macro- and microeconomic perspective.
Whether you work in a small business or a large corporation, intercultural competence is an important prerequisite for successful collaboration in a globalised world.
The Excursion module therefore offers you the opportunity to get to know countries and their economic models under expert guidance. Among other things, you will visit companies, organisations and (higher) education institutions. This will help you develop intercultural competence and learn to interact successfully and to the mutual satisfaction of all parties with people from different cultural and social backgrounds.
The module consists of a preparatory meeting, the actual excursion and a follow-up with a written report. Upon successful completion, you will receive 5 ECTS credits.
